Institute for Cellular and Molecular Technologies

Institute for Cellular and Molecular Technologies (ICMT) was established in 2013. ICMT is a member of the biopharmaceutical cluster "Northern" - association of the leading enterprises of the Russian pharmaceutical, biotech and medical industries, research institutes, hospitals and small innovative companies based at the Moscow Institute for physics and technology (MIPT).

ICMT performs research and development at the fields of new biomedical technologies in collaboration with leading Russian, German and American institutions. ICMT activities include development of new biomedical cell-based products, molecules and healthcare related IT-products.

One of the projects was a research of a material based on the skin of genetically modified pigs. The problem of xenotransplantation of the materials based on conventional pig skin is the occurrence of hyperacute rejection process (HAR). The way to prevent HAR was to grow pigs that lack α-1,3-Gal epitopes, basic xenoantigens for primates.

ICMT actively cooperates with the members of biopharmcluster "Northern", which includes developers of medical equipment (Altonika, MTL, Uni-Med, etc.), different range pharmaceutical companies (CHEMRAR, Protek, etc.), as well as scientific and clinical educational centers (Sechenov Moscow Medical Institute, Pirogov National Medical University, Vladimirskiy Moscow Regional Research and Clinical Institute etc).

For telemedicine and other IT issues ICMT works through Russian Consortium for Telemedicine, which gives ICMT an opportunity to work with partners in the BRICS countries.

ICMT foreign collaborators: Ludwig-Maximilian University (Munich), Technical University of Munich, Leipzig University, Harvard University and Columbia University.

ICMT Scientific Council consists of Russian and foreign specialists:

In terms of further development ICMT works with hepatology issues. In 2016, a startup activities were expanded towards the development of molecules for the treatment of hepatitis C and software based on neural networks for the development and subsequent implementation in the medical and educational fields of diagnostic and therapeutic algorithms in hepatology. Projects are being developed in collaboration with leading experts in this field.
